Maria Conchita Alonso was born in Cuba but emigrated to Caracas, Venezuela, with her family when she was five. At age
14, she was crowned Miss Teenager of the World; at 18, she became Miss Venezuela. After starring in several Venezuelan films
and Spanish-language soap operas, she came to the U.S. in 1982. Her films have included "Moscow on the Hudson"
(1986), "The Running Man" (1987), "Colors" (1988), and "Caught" (1996); she's also done a large
amount of work for TV. In addition, she's a Grammy-nominated singer and, in 1995, became the first South American woman to
star on Broadway ("Kiss of the Spider Woman").
